After the holidays, the parks were really slow and it was a nice break from the craziness. My program was supposed to end on January 4th, but I extended and I am here until May. I moved apartments the first week of January and most of my friends left on the 4th like I was originally supposed to. It was a really weird transition time for me. I was almost starting over, but there was no excitement of starting the unknown at work because I am still at Spaceship Earth and it is getting pretty repetitive. Going to work the first few days after saying goodbye to all of my friends was really depressing. The good thing about having a bad day when they were all here was that there was bound to be someone to vent to around every corner. They made work fun. And almost all of them left Orlando on the same day and it was so sad. There are 5 of us in the college program that extended and I feel like we have gotten a lot closer since our work friend group shrunk.
I got to stay in the same apartment complex, but had to move buildings. There are 4 apartment complexes for the college program and we didn't know where we had to move to until the morning of! So if I had to move complexes and none of my friends with a car were able to help me move, I would have had to take a bus! But thank god I stayed at Vista Way and Danny, my friend from work, was free to help me move. I moved into a room with a bathroom connected to it that I only share with my roommate, Sarah. My new apartment is renovated and feels very homey. But the first two weeks here I felt like I was just staying the night in someone else's apartment. I didn't feel comfortable looking through cupboards or cooking. I felt out of place at work and my home. I was really homesick and bored at the same time. It was tough. I have a few full time work friends that I am close to who, along with the 4 other college programers who stayed, were my saving grace.
Right before Christmas, my Aunt Debi and her two boys came to visit me and we went to Epcot and Animal Kingdom! We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for 2 nights and had so much fun. They used some of my guest passes into the park and they got to ride Spaceship Earth which I was so so excited about! It is hard to explain what I do every day without actually seeing it. At Animal Kingdom, we made FastPasses for a roller coaster and Joey and I convinced Debi to go on it, and she ended up loving it and going on it twice in a row! I was so proud of her. It was really nice to see family around Christmas since I was away from home for the first time.
A few weeks later, my cousin, Alisa, from my dad's side visited me while she was in Orlando. She was here in between the time when my friends went home but before I had moved apartments, and I was in desperate need of a friend. We went shopping and had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants in Orlando (outside of Disney property) and they accidentally mixed in a piece of fish with the chicken! I almost threw up because I hate fish that much and then they gave me a new item of my choice so of course I ordered a dessert. Alisa and I split the dessert and I ate some of her fries. And my whole meal ended up being free! So the fish was worth it.
I was in touch with my mom a lot throughout the transition time and wanted to make a short trip home or have her come visit me. But instead we planned a trip to Disneyland! We booked our tickets exactly 2 weeks before we met in LA and it was just what I needed.

Christmas Angels and A*sholes
The last two weeks have been the busiest time of the year at Walt Disney World. Our managers were preparing us for weeks about how busy it was going to be. Spaceship Earth's wait time is usually no more than 30 minutes at our busiest time of the day, but yesterday, New Years Eve, it was 95 minutes most of the day. When the wait times are long and the whole park is busy, generally people are more mean than usual. I don't know everything that has gone wrong during their day so I try to have some patience when they're rude to me. On the other hand, I have also met some of the nicest people since I've worked here just in the last two weeks.

| Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios! I went to visit a week before Christmas |
On Christmas Eve, I was working until close and my first assignment of the night was to go to the FastPass kiosks where we're supposed to help people make and change their FastPass reservations and answer questions. I was there for less than 20 minutes when a grown man and his young son came up to me and asked about how he could make more FastPasses for the day when he already had some at another park for later that night. I explained that he must use all three before the system will let him make another selection. He was angry that the reservations that HE SCHEDULED were so late in the night and he wouldn't be able to make more after he used them because the park would be closed. I apologized and explained the system more in detail and said there wasn't really anything I could do. (Coincidentally, I didn't even have a paper FastPass in my pocket, so even if he was nice and I wanted to give him one, there was literally nothing I could do.) He was pissed and stormed off. Not even 10 minutes later, while I am helping another guest at the kiosk, I see the same guy standing a few feet away from me and shakes his finger at me. "You're a liar! You don't know the system and you should know how to do your job! Guest Relations gave me more FastPasses because you're a liar! You don't know how to do your job!" I didn't know what to say and it was really embarrassing because a bunch of other people heard. As I was helping another family, I started to cry and couldn't stop. They tried to comfort me and I went to the bathroom to try to stop. On my way there, two little old ladies gave me hugs and told me not to be sad because it was Christmas. I know I didn't do anything wrong because there is really nothing I could do to make him more FastPasses. Later, he rode Spaceship Earth and I saw him as he got off the ride and he growled at me like a dog. I told all of my coworker friends the story and they also tried to make me feel better. I was so embarrassed all night and kept thinking of what I could have said before he went to Guest Relations so he wouldn't have yelled at me. Then I put myself in his shoes. I thought if I was really mad at something so trivial like that, there is no way in hell that I would have gone back to the cast member and yelled in their face and called them a liar, especially on Christmas Eve. And I realized that it wasn't me or anything I said, but that he was just an ugly person who's anger got the best of him. I hope his son doesn't grow up to as horrible as his dad.

Christmas Party at MK
Last week was Thanksgiving, and it was the first one that I didn't spend at home. I went to my Grandpa's house which was nice and then Epcot had 99 cent dinner for cast members the day before. So I actually got two Thanksgiving meals. I was kind of sad about not being home for the holiday, but I worked a closing shift that night so it kept my mind off of it. Me, Mary Holland, and some other friends from work went shopping at midnight for Black Friday deals. I got a really fuzzy sweatshirt and vest from Old Navy which I won't be able to wear here because it is still way too hot, and some yummy room spray from Bath and Body. I was glad that I was at least able to be with good friends on that day.
Last Tuesday, I went to Epcot on my time off. There is a Candle Light Precessional every night all through December where high school choirs from all over come to sing Christmas songs while a celebrity narrates the show and reads out of the Bible. Neil Patrick Harris was there that day and he was the only narrator that I really wanted to see. I was so close to Neil! Even though I had to stand in the back of the out door concert stage. His introduction was really funny and the songs were beautiful, but the people I was standing by were driving me nuts. I left a little early mainly to beat the rush out of the park, but also because one of the couples near me smelled like cats.
My roomie Amanda and I went to the Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom on Friday and we had so much fun! The park isn't half as packed during that time so we had to wait 20 minutes max for any ride we went on. I rode Astro Orbiter, met Ariel, and rode Aladdin's Magic Carpet all for the first time! There is a camel that spits water onto the Magic Carpet ride and Amanda and I both got hit in the face unexpectedly and some even got in my mouth. I have never had so much fun on a little ride like that! We laughed about it for the next 20 minutes while we got the water out of our ears. They were giving out hot chocolate and cookies around the park and we wanted to stock up, so we got a blue bag from a merchandise shop and asked for cookies multiple times at each location. We came home with a stuffed little bag of sugar cookies. Amanda works a lot and likes to be to her location early, so she doesn't have much free time to spend at the parks. We did a lot of rides that night that she had never done before, so she got to mark a lot off on her list.

We had a good spot for the fireworks and got sad when they played the song "I'll be Home for Christmas" because neither of us will be home for Christmas. I ended up getting a free corn dog nugget meal because they charged my card for the wrong item then gave me a refund, then we found a seat to watch the parade! There was a really bad smell every once in a while while we were sitting on the side walk and we think that the lady next to us had gas. It didn't ruin our time watching the parade because we had just gotten free food and front row seat of the show! The parade was awesome. There were a lot of performers who "skiing" and "ice skating" and there were big gingerbread men and a toy soldiers marching band! I must have been waving like a crazy person because a lot of characters were waving to me and giving me thumbs up. Dale, as in Chip and Dale, even came over and kissed my hand. It sounds so dumb but little things like that are fun! Some floats had scents coming off of them that fit the theme, like gingerbread or cinnamon. A ton of princesses were there and Cinderella's carriage was pulled by white miniature horses and I had to hold my breath while they walked by. I really liked that parade because it was really long and themed well. It has been hard getting into the Christmas spirit being so far away from home and my family. Also, the 70 degree weather confuses my body into thinking its eternally summer so it definitely doesn't feel like Christmas. But it was so fun to celebrate with such a good friend like Amanda.

I requested to cross train at another ride in Epcot, so hopefully I find out soon if I will be able to work somewhere other than Spaceship Earth! I am not trying to run away from Spaceship Earth, I do like working there. I am just looking for something else to do to break up my time and maybe meet more people around Disney.

Highs and Lows
This past week has been a roller coaster. I only had one day off this week because I picked up a shift for a friend, and on that day that is usually my regular day off, guests were being so rude. At the beginning of my shift, a guy who was standing 2 feet away from me, was complaining to his family about how the line was so long because I was doing my job wrong. Hearing that bugged me only because I knew I wasn't doing my job wrong. Most of what we say at Spaceship Earth goes in one ear and out the other, but that day it seemed like more people than usual weren't paying any attention. About an hour before the park closed, there was a large family with one man in an electric scooter waiting under the big ball. Two grown men in the group started honking the horn and sarcastically yelling that they needed help. Everything echoes under the ball and they were being obnoxious. I went over there to ask if they needed help (because they were yelling "SOS" and we have a wheelchair entrance that I thought they might need help finding) and then the man in the scooter drove away. The wife in the group told me that they were just being crazy and she looked annoyed as well. I went back over to my station outside of the entrance of the ride and then the other grown man in the group started yelling at me. He sarcastically applauded me and said thank you for embarrassing his friend in the scooter and it was my fault that he didn't want to get on the ride. The man in the scooter had a prosthetic leg, but I did nothing other than ask them if they needed help, and his friend blamed me for making him not want to ride. I had already had a stressful day and was embarrassed that someone yelled at me in front of so many other people and I started to cry. Thank god it was dark outside so other guests couldn't tell unless they were looking right at me. I felt bad that I might have offended someone with a disability, but in retrospect, I know I didn't do anything wrong. One of my coworkers came over to me and told me not to worry about it and that the guy was out of line and he handed me a tissue. So sweet. After work that night, me and Mary Holland went to eat chicken wings. The next day went really well. I think somehow people knew that I needed to have a good day at work.
I was scheduled for a 13 hour shift on Thursday, and after I cried in front of guests, I knew that I needed to take a personal day and I could have my two days off that week. And I had a great day! I took an Uber to get Panera for lunch and then I got a foot massage. I laid out by the pool for the rest of the day.
The next day at work was really overwhelming. It was one of the last days of the Food and Wine Festival, so huge groups of super drunk people were coming to ride Spaceship Earth. They yell and don't know where to sit, or they've lost one person in their group, or they ask the same irrelevant questions over and over. It gets even more hectic than usual. I was in the position of the person who powers up the ride and has a lot of control when we had an automatic stop. It wasn't an emergency, there was a backpack strap out of one of the cars so the ride thought someone was trying to jump out of their seat. Anyway, I was in charge of calling maintenance and sending people to find out what was wrong with the ride. I had 3 people talking to me all at once and this was the first time I have done something like this so I had no idea what to do. Thank god it wasn't an emergency!!! I got really flustered because there was so much going on and people were telling all to do different things. It took a few minutes, but everything got back to normal with the help of Sarah, my coordinator for that day. I want something to happen when I'm in that position again because I want to have a do over so I can redeem myself and people won't be telling me what to do.
I know that it's Disney World, but some days are just really stressful. People feel entitled because they spent so much money to get there, and I want to make their vacation fun, but sometimes it's the guests that make me want to never come back. I think that working here has been a good lesson for me because I am learning to not care as much about if people are mean. Yes, I did just cry last week because someone was mean, but smaller problems are starting not to affect me as much anymore, and I am really grateful for that! I have always been really sensitive, especially when it comes to people being mad at me, but I am slowly caring less and less, and I like it! I think that this is an odd way to learn a really important life lesson. Working at Disney is helping me not care if people are mean. That makes me laugh!
I ended my week on a positive note, which I believe is important. On Monday, a group of Spaceship Earth girls went to Epcot to enjoy the last day of the Food and Wine Festival! We wanted to try a few more food items before it was over, but also we were celebrating that that was the last day of huge groups of really drunk guests. I stopped at France and got the creme brûlée and I hate to say that I didn't really like it. We had heard about a memorial backstage for the crisis in Paris. We went back there and it was touching. There were so many bouquets of flowers, candles, and big French flag. I am glad that we were able to see it. We then went on to the Brazil booth and I got crispy pork and it was delicious!! that was one of my favorite things that I had at Food and Wine. We then went to Belgium and got waffles, they were yummy and really cute, but nothing special. It was so hot that day, we decided that we needed to find air conditioning. One of my friends had a Disney visa card that got us into some special lounge for free soda! We were taking advantage of the free ice water and Diet Coke when I saw a couple that I recognized from my Instagram news feed. Their account is Oh Yeah Disney and it's obviously all about Disney! The account is really popular and they also sell Mickey ears on Etsy. I was so excited to see them and went over to say hi! They were so nice and asked to follow my Insta account. My day was made at that point and it was only noon.

Grilled Cheese and Lots of Family
I started my week off by going to Animal Kingdom with my friend Will. I'm embarrassed to say that it was my first time there. I have been here in Florida for so long, but just never made it over to Animal Kingdom. Whenever I have time for a park day, I just love going to Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom so much to try something else. But we had fun at AK! The park was practically empty so we got to do almost everything. We walked on a nature path and saw animals like zebras and gorillas. Then we went on the Kilimanjaro safari ride and saw even more wild animals. Hippos, giraffes, warthogs, and elephants. I didn't take many pictures because I want to enjoy the ride like a regular human. The animals were out in a "natural environment" and the safari car drove right next to them! It was surreal. We then saw the It's Tough To Be a Bug show that is inside the big Tree of Life, which is AK's icon. We ate lunch at an African market and had Dole Whip with coconut rum and it was soo good. The park is huge and it was so hot that day, but I still had a lot of fun! We saw the Nemo show, which was amazing, and the Lion King show. We rode Expedition Everest, a roller coaster that has a great view of Orlando and goes backwards for most of the ride. We sat in front row and then rode again and sat in the very back row before the park closed. I could see Spaceship Earth when we sat in the front! I felt like a child experiencing parts of Disney for the first time again, and I loved it.

"There Really is Still Magic"
I have been really busy with work this past week and haven't had much time for anything else. I had a 12 hour shift, which I thought would be torture, but a lot of my friends were also working that day so it went by pretty fast. I have had some memorable interactions with guests this past week and they also help the long days go by.
A British family of 4 came up to me an hour or two before the park closed because they couldn't find their stroller. The entrance of Spaceship Earth is surrounded by large flower planters where people can leave their drillers while they get on the ride. The only stroller disturbance that I've seen since I've been here was when a squirrel get into the bottom storage part and took off with a small bag of snacks. But this family could not find their stroller even after I suggested they double check both sections just in case someone moved it. I called my coordinator after there was still no sign of the stroller and we chit chatted about their day while we waited for my coordinator to come help. They were the cutest little family, two young girls with curly hair and their parents who told me that they had bought the stroller that morning. They had just flown in from England and this was their first day at Disney. When the dad was describing the stroller to me so we could keep an eye out even after they left, the oldest girl started crying when he mentioned that their souvenir cups were in there and she said that this was the worst holiday ever! He laughed a little when he realized everything he was describing that was in the stroller was pink. They were all so tired and we're getting ready to just leave without it just as my coordinator got there. When he walked up to us and asked what the problem was, the younger girl said "Someone stole my buggie!" in the cutest little British accent and big puppy dog eyes. I felt so bad for them that their stroller was stollen or misplaced because they were soo nice and patient. My coordinator made sure they got some popcorn and soda for the next day at another park and that was all that we could really do. They were so nice even though the first day of their vacation didn't end well. They thanked us over but we never found their pink stroller. I love saying "Someone stole my buggie!" in a British accent and am thankful for guests like them who make my job more fun even when they're not having a good time.
The next guest that made my day/life, I met at a FastPass kiosk while I was helping him make FastPasses for that day. He saw my name tag and said that his daughter was named Paige and that he always knew that if he had a daughter, he would name her Paige. So of course I liked him. We started chatting about his day and how it was his birthday and he was there with some friends to show them Epcot for the first time. I told him that he needed a birthday button to wear for the day. He said that he was a Disney engineer so he has got many buttons from over the years. He wanted his friends to ride Soarin' but the wait is always so long and we were completely out of FastPasses. I had a special paper ticket in my pocket for a group of 5 people to get into a ride of their choice at Epcot and new that this was the perfect group to share it with. I told him that it was for his birthday and for his friends to have a good time. He was so shocked and asked to give me a hug and thanked me over and over! He then told me that it was on his birthday, however many years ago, that it was announced that Disney World would be named after Walt Disney. He said that he was disappointed that he couldn't get into Magic Kingdom that day (because it was so busy with Halloween party guests that they won't let cast members get in when it is super busy) to celebrate his birthday but I made his birthday special. He gave me a hug and then said "There really is still magic." I got chills when I told my friends about it in the break room and this is my very favorite guest interaction I have had so far. Little things like that make working long hours so much more fun!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
Last night I went to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom! I haven't ever really gotten into Halloween, but Disney has been decorated with pumpkins since the middle of September so it was almost impossible to not be excited. I have wanted to dress up as Wednesday Addams for a few months and it didn't take much effort to get my costume together. My roomie Amanda came to the Halloween party too, and I forced her to dress up. The best costume I could get out of her was a Disney tourist. She looked so cute! Like she was ready for a regular day at the park, even though she thought she looked over the top. Amanda and I went to Magic Kingdom a few hours before the party started and Jalie, another roomie, met us there later. On the bus from the college program housing, a lot of people were going to work and almost everyone except me was in a real Halloween costume. I felt silly at first but then thought it was funny to keep a straight face and really act like Wednesday. Amanda even saw some girl take a picture of me.
I got a special edition card for the Sorcerer's of Magic Kingdom game and people can only get them during the Halloween party. Next we went over to the Peter Pan ride which I have been dying to ride since I got here. I have only heard good things and the wait is always long so that means it must be good! Then we went over to "it's a small world" and that is always fun because it's a classic and every time I go, I find something new. This was Amanda's first time to MK so it was fun to show her things that I like and see her try new things. On the way to the Peter Pan ride we passed a guy eating a huuuuge ice cream cookie sandwich and we both practically drooled on ourselves so we went back and bought some. It was delicious and maybe one of the best desserts I've had here! While we were in line for the cookie, I heard the girl walking past us say that she hardly ever buys food at the parks. And that was one of the craziest things I have ever heard. There are some special things that you can only get at Disney World so why not eat it?! We went on the Buzz Lightyear ride and then met Jalie at the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. We also saw some Monsters characters and they only all come out like that for the party. We then got to meet the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and she looked a little scary or disproportionate, but it was fun to meet her because, again, this was a special occasion and she doesn't come out often!
We stopped at a little food place that sells loaded mac and cheese and I was still so full from the ice cream sandwich. They were selling special souvenir cups that were like a "poison apple"and I got a frozen lemonade in it. It took me about 2 hours to finish it because there was no more room in my stomach. A ton of people asked Jalie (she got one too) and I where they could get the cups because they were so cool!
We found a spot to watch the Boo to You parade which had a bunch of rare characters, zombies and ghosts, and Disney villains! Then we only waited a few minutes to watch the Hocus Pocus show with the Sanderson Sisters and some more villains. The witches were so good and I love that they were included because Hocus Pocus is the perfect Halloween movie and so many people are obsessed with it. After that show, we sat down on the sidewalk which was just packed with people. I was sitting cross legged and a man holding a stroller up stepped over me but landed on my foot and crushed it sideways. It was an accident and I was the one who chose to sit on a busy sidewalk, but it still hurts today. Next up was HalloWishes, the firework show! Magic Kingdom has a firework show every night called Wishes, so this one was a special edition and it was SO COOL! They projected ghosts on the castle and made it orange and there were fireworks all around the park, not just behind the castle.
After all the shows, Amanda and I went to get on some more rides before the night was over! We went to Haunted Mansion, of course, and there was a ghost outside talking to people. I saw the makeup that the cast members were wearing and had to get a picture as Wednesday with one of them. Then we went on to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train which is a new roller coaster and it always has such a long wait, but only 30 minutes when we got in line! It's such a smooth roller coaster and so cute with the songs from Snow White. We stopped by Gaston's Tavern and Amanda NEEDED to get the cinnamon roll that I got a few weeks ago. She loves cinnamon, and desserts, and I don't know how she ate it because I was about to get sick because I was still so full. We then went onto the Little Mermaid ride and I sang along as usual.
We then ended the night on the Dumbo ride! I had never done it before and so it was us three and one other family on and we rode it 3 times in a row! I felt like a little kid. And the view of the castle was really cool especially because the moon was right beside it. When the clock struck midnight, the workers at Dumbo said "Bye! Have a good night!" and we knew that was code for "Get out." We got home around 1 am so I was so happy that I didn't have to work today and got to sleep in! I had a great night as Wednesday Addams and I was so glad that I got the full Disney Halloween experience!
